Spring Creek board nominees 2023
Vote for your nominees at the January 14, 2023 Annual Meeting.
Karen White
Karen White and her husband Johnny live on a 55 acre homestead in Rose near the headwaters of Bryant Creek, a tributary to Spring Creek.
We have lived here since 1999, and our land is part of the Spring Creek watershed. I enjoy meeting as many of my needs from the land as is practical while living in harmony with nature.
I work as a dietitian and homesteader, and consider the natural world precious. In seeing that many people, businesses and government agencies do not act in ways that take the natural world into account as much as money and personal gain, I would enjoy being more involved to help raise awareness of and protect our natural resources, while meeting neighbors and others who share the same interests.
Bill Chambers - for a second term
I first saw Spring Creek in 1982 and was completely astounded that such natural beauty and pristine waters were in Oklahoma. Now, 40 years later, I am fortunate to be able to have a home on Spring Creek and be part of the Spring Creek Coalition. I realize that the watershed is under attack by different threats (water removal, pollution, etc.), and that I should do what I can to protect it for future generations. I am currently Vice President of the SCC Board and the lead of our Water Monitoring efforts.
Karen harris - for a Second term
I grew up on a small farm above Big Hollow Creek just outside of Peoria, Illinois, a town on the banks of the Illinois River. So flowing water is in my blood. After earning a master's degree in Systematics and Ecology from the University of Kansas, I began a thirty-seven year science-teaching career at Bishop Kelley and Holland Hall High Schools in Tulsa. After retirement, I started a small urban farm (Bad Dog Farm) in Tulsa and began helping Mike Appel and Emily Oakley at Three Springs Farm near Oaks on Spring Creek. I have been a member of STIR and SCC and served these past three years as a board member for SCC. As a property owner on Oklahoma's Illinois River, I understand the value of our streams and am passionately invested in the preservation of the Spring Creek watershed.
